Azerbaijan looks to a song contest to forge stronger links with Europe

Azerbaijan is using a glitzy European pop contest to demonstrate to the world how this once-backward former-Soviet republic has become a modern society eager to forge links with Europe and willing to enter energy deals with its enormous oil and gas reserves. But protesters and human rights watchers want to use the same event to highlight alleged human rights abuses and lack of democracy in the country.
