The age of U.S. interventionism may not be over
President Trump has made it clear he wants to avoid military intervention but has shown a willingness to use force when necessary. Even then, he prefers non-escalatory measures. Moreover, America’s most significant competitors also want to avoid military confrontation. But others could find benefit in drawing the U.S. into a fight.
